Ten Times When Aishwarya Rai Sizzled on the Red Carpet of Cannes Film Festival
May is the month when the queen of queens, former Miss World, Aishwarya Rai not only takes over the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival but ensnares with her bewitching beauty. Whenever you take the name of Cannes Film Festival, immediately the first thing that comes to your mind is Aishwarya Rai. In this blog post, we shall be taking a flashback ride to curate my ten favourite looks of Aishwarya Rai from the red carpet of Cannes Film Festival.
Miss World 1994, Aishwarya Rai marked her debut at Cannes in 2002 after her blockbuster hit movie, “Devdas”, we shall come to that look as I start unfolding my bucket list. While many people claim, Aish doesn’t experiment with designers and tends to stick to dated silhouettes which leads to a ‘meh’ fashion experience, yet I do believe Aishwarya Rai can dress up in a tee and still get heads turned. For now I will start with my number 10.
2007- Giorgio Armani Look
In 2007, Aishwarya Rai wore a Giorgio Armani white strapless ruched gown and a diamond choker. This was the first time after her wedding that Aishwarya Rai was attending the Cannes Film Festival and we did see her walking in all gaiety with her husband, Abhishekh Bacchan on the red carpet. Although the overall look is quite simple, if you observe the eye makeup it gives a very glamorous touch to her beauty. The nude lipstick just makes her look all the more alluring without trying too hard.
2016- Ali Younes Look
Aishwarya Rai looked resplendent in a golden Ali Younes beaded cape couture gown. To go with this look she had lined her upper eyelid with a bold turquoise blue liner, combining it with a smokey blue eyeshadow and bold lashes, and a killer red lip shade that just slayed everyone on the red carpet. She styled her hair in loose waves and kept the rest of the make-up nude and luminous, which is why I think it was glamorous but not over the top despite of all the shimmer and glaze.
2010- Armani Couture Look
I think Aishwarya completely stole the show with her black strapless Armani Prive gown at Cannes Red Carpet in 2010. She added a dash of color with her red lipstick. Although the look again looks simple, sober and not too loud it is screaming glamour in every sense! Truly celestial!
2002- Neeta Lulla
Her first appearance at Cannes was a safe choice, as she opted for a quintessentially Indian look while donning a finely carved gold necklace along with a golden Neeta Lulla saree. Now this look drew criticism from fashion police for being overtly accessorised with gold embellishments, I personally believe this vibrant yellow saree not only showcases the rich heritage of India being rooted in the culture but also makes her look who she actually is. Her individuality in this look is sustained and she doesn’t look like a model who is made to wear the majestic design where the attire takes all the attention, the attention with this look remains on her.
2004- Neeta Lulla
In 2004 Cannes Film Festival, Aishwarya stepped up her game and wore Neeta Lulla design yet again for the third consecutive time, but this time it was a white evening gown decked up with fine silver embellishments. The former Miss World completed her look with Chopard jewellery with permed hair. This was the third time Aishwarya consecutively stuck to Neeta Lulla and she did pretty much amazing job with this.
2015- Elie Saab
Aishwarya doesn’t seem to age, she only gets better and bolder with every passing year. She made her astonishingly beautiful appearance at Cannes red carpet in a green colored lace Elie Saab evening gown. The former Miss World walked the red carpet in a turquoise Elie Saab gown, and teamed it up with DeGrisgono jewellery.
2016- Elie Saab
In the subsequent, Aishwarya again went to choose Elie Saab for the red carpet look. She donned a golden gown by Elie Saab which outburst her ethereal beauty in a wonderful way! This beautiful gown when paired with bold matte lipstick was ten on ten to show the real grandeur the name Aishwarya Rai itself possesses. She looks gorgeous, sexy and at the same time very captivating.
2018- Michael Cinco
Now how on earth can we forget this beautiful design? This look is ROYALTY. I believe this is the most experimental look Aishwarya Rai has ever tried on the red carpet of Cannes. From the vibrant colours to makeup to overall exuberance, this look and this evening gown by Michael Cinco does complete justice to the magnificence associated with the name of the queen. This jaw-dropping fully-embroidered gown in the hues of violet, blue and pink, took over 3,000 hours ( or 125 plus days) to create. It involved intricate threadwork and Swarovski crystals along with multi-hues crystals, stitched together to give the ornate butterfly effect. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST Look ever and I would have gladly put it at number 1, for which you have to wait.
2017- Michael Cinco
Yet another masterpiece by Michael Cinco, Aishwarya looked like she stepped outside a fairy tale in this amazing masterpiece. With her hair poker straight and loose, her subtle make-up paired with dark-hued lips, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan looked every inch a royal princess at the 70th Annual Cannes Film festival. She wore a floor-sweeping powder blue ballroom gown and pulled off the look like a pro in the stunning off-shoulder gown, fitted from the waist and flowing out into a ballroom dress with a plunging neckline. This gown also did justice to her body type making her look regal and royal without trying too hard.
2014- Robert Cavalli
Now as I said while discussing my number 3 favorite look of this list that Michael Cinco’s butterfly gown look could easily be number 1, but I choose this look to be my favourite look ever as this makes her look quintessentially herself. Now when I keep referring to Aishwarya as queen of queens, I simply do not say that without a reason. If you look at this appearance you will know her eyes, her smile seems to be talking to the audience, and she looks more like herself. Gorgeous would be an understatement while describing Aish’s beauty in the strapless criss-cross pattern waist clinching gown that featured a mermaid silhouette. Cascading curls and bright red lips made her look every inch the greek goddess she is!
So while the fashion police might go haunting the world’s most beautiful woman for not choosing her red carpet looks wisely I again say that she can wear a tee and still gain a limelight for she is the queen of queens.
So these were my favourite looks, I would love to know your favourites too so drop down your favourite looks in the comments below.
