Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa Crowned Miss Universe 2019: Becomes First Black Miss Universe After Leila Lopes!


Zozibini Tunzi from South Africa Wins Miss Universe 2019

Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa was crowned as Miss Universe 2019 in the grand finale of the 68th edition of the Miss Universe pageant which took place on December 8, 2019 at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, the United States. Zozibini Tunzi succeeds Catriona Gray of the Philippines as the new Miss Universe and becomes third Miss Universe titleholder from South Africa after Margaret Gardiner and Demi Leigh Nel Peters.

The pageant witnessed participation from 90 countries all around the globe. The grand finale of Miss Universe 2019 was hosted by Steve Harvey in his fifth consecutive year, with Olivia Culpo and Vanessa Lachey as backstage corespondents.

The pageant was judged by the following dignitaries-

  • Gaby Espino – Venezuelan actress
  • Sazan Hendrix – American businesswoman and social media personality
  • Riyo Mori – Miss Universe 2007 from Japan
  • Cara Mund – Miss America 2018
  • Bozoma Saint John – American businesswoman and marketing executive
  • Crystle Stewart – American actress and Miss USA 2008
  • Paulina Vega – Miss Universe 2014 from Colombia
  • Olivia Jordan (only as preliminary judge) – American actress, model, and Miss USA 2015

During the same pageant, Madison Anderson from Puerto Rico was titled as the first runner up while Sofía Aragón from Mexico was adjudged as the second runner up.
