Rafieya Husain To Represent Guyana at Miss Universe 2017
Rafieya Husain was crowned as Miss Universe Guyana 2017 on August 20, 2017 at York College Performing Arts Centre, Jamaica, New York. She succeeds Soyini Fraser as new Miss Universe Guyana and will now represent her nation in the coming edition of Miss Universe pageant, wherein the reigning Miss Universe, Iris Mittenaere of France will pass on her crown to her successor.
Rafieya Husain defeated ten other contestants to grab the title of Miss Universe Guyana 2017. Apart from winning the main crown, she also won the awards for Best Interview, Miss Popularity and Most Elegant. The grand finale was also graced by the reigning Miss Universe, Iris Mittenaere from France.
During the coronation gala of Miss Universe Guyana 2017, Sharisse Victor was titled as the first runner up and Nalicia Ramdyal was adjudged as the second runner up.
The newly crowned Miss Universe Guyana, Rafieya Husain currently continues her campaign against domestic violence. Having been a victim of domestic violence herself, Rafieya aims to raise awareness about the same along with trying to educate young people on the early signs of dating violence. Rafieya has established an outreach centre on the Essequibo Coast in Guyana under the name RIVA. Through this initiative, she hopes to carry out her legacy.
Rafieya Husain gave a brilliant performance at Miss World 2014 which was held in London. Rafieya not just won the most integral segment of the pageant, Beauty with a Purpose but also grabbed the title of Continental Queen of Caribbean.
Guyana has been participating at Miss Universe pageant since 1956 but has never placed in the semi-finals till date. However, with Rafieya holding the sash of Guyana it is likely to expect a good performance from the nation in the coming edition of Miss Universe. What is your take on this?
