Chandini Chanka To Represent Trinidad and Tobago at Miss World 2017
Chandini Chanka from Port of Spain was crowned as Miss World Trinidad and Tobago on July 16, 2017 at the Central Bank Auditorium, Port of Spain. She succeeds Daniella Walcott and will now represent her nation at Miss World 2017 on November 18, 2017.
Soon after winning the crown, Chandini Chanka was found expressing, “Through this journey, I have learnt a great deal about our beautiful Island nation, Trinidad and Tobago. The experiences taught me to always stay strong, humble and persistent and I believe my personal development has been greatly promoted.”
During the same event, Melissa Aguilleira from Moruga was titled as the first runner up and Tanisha Lalla from Woodland was adjudged as the second runner up. The Top 5 finalists included Chandini Chanka, Tanisha Lalla, Melissa Aguilleira, Zayna McDonald and Sherisse Bideshi.
At the coronation eve of Miss World Trinidad and Tobago, Melissa Aguilleira was awarded with the subtitles of Best Pre-Show Queen, Miss Elegance and “Oneness” Spirit of the World. While Jade Mascall bagged the subtitle of Miss Amity and Sherisse Bideshi was honoured with the award of Best Beauty With a Purpose. Zayna McDonald won the Best Talent and Miss Personality subtitles and Tanisha Lalla bagged the Top Model and Miss Photogenic rounds.
The show was judged by Yvonne Poppelwell, Rana Ibrahim, William Tommy, Stephanie Moe, Nadeem Kothdiwala, Vanessa Sahatoo-Manoo, Anielka Espino and Gregory Lewin.
Trinidad and Tobago has been competing at Miss World since 1950s but the country has won the crown only once, in the courtesy of Gisella Laronda in 1986. During the same event, she was titled with Miss World Americas 1986. Trinidad and Tobago has also won Miss World Caribbean title thrice in the year 1995, 2007 and 2008. The last significant placement of Trinidad and Tobago was acquired by Gabrielle Walcott at Miss World 2008 where she finished as the second runner up.
