Catherine Carmichael Will Wear The Sash of Kansas at Miss USA 2017
Catherine Carmichael was crowned as Miss Kansas USA 2017 on November 27, 2016 at Kansas Star Event Center. She succeeds Victoria Wiggins and will now represent Kansas in the coming edition of Miss USA 2017, wherein Deshauna Barber of District of Columbia will pass on her crown to her successor.
During the coronation gala of Miss Kansas USA 2017, Taylor Schettler from Greater Lawrence was titled as the first runner-up, Rachel Morris from South Overland Park was adjudged as the second runner-up, Alyssa Klinzing from Lenexa was announced as the third runner-up and Cassie Lohmeyer from Greater Wichita finished as the fourth runner up.
At the same event, Malerie Moore was crowned with the title of Miss Teen Kansas USA 2017. She will represent Kansas at Miss Teen USA 2017, whereby Karlie Hay of Texas will crown her successor.
Kansas has won the Miss USA crown only once in the representation of Kelli McCarty back in 1991. Kansas did not place at Miss USA until 1973, the third-to-last state to make their first placement. From then, no delegate from Kansas made the cut until 1991, when Kelli McCarty won the crown. The state last placed at Miss USA in 2010 under the representation of Bethany Gerber, who placed as Top 15 semi-finalist.
