Cristiana Viana was crowned as Miss Portuguesa 2016 on July 30, 2016 at the Monastery of Batalha. Cristiana Viana succeeds Miss World Portugal 2015, Rafaela Pardete and will now represent Portugal in the coming edition of Miss World, hoping to succeed Mireia Lalaguna Royo of Spain as the next titleholder.
During the coronation eve of Miss World Portugal 2016, Ana Bomfim was adjudged as the first runner-up and Carina Caldeira was titled as the second runner-up.
After winning the crown, Cristiana expressed her ecstasy by saying, “This victory is the realization of a dream. I am still very excited and I have no words to describe everything I feel.”
On the other hand, the outgoing Miss Portuguesa, Rafaela Pardete opined, “And the time has come to say goodbye. At the end of almost 1 year now is the most difficult moment, the moment of farewell. Throughout this year I lived unique experiences, I transported the colors of my flag in the world, not only in the heart, but represented by a crown and a sash. Crown and track those that with great pride I went through to the new Miss Portuguesa Cristiana Viana. I appreciate that the organisation Miss Portuguese for the opportunity and trust placed in me, to all partners miss Portuguese as well supported me and never allow anything to fail and I thank you all for the support and dedication of the first to the last second. This is not a farewell, it’s a see you later.”
Melanie Vicente was the last representative from Portugal to get a placement at Miss World in 2012, whereby she was adjudged as the Top 30 quarter-finalist. Ana Paula de Almeida is the highest placement earner at Miss World 1971, where she was crowned as the second runner up. Portugal is yet to win the first Miss World crown.
