Caroline Carothers is Miss Texas 2016
Caroline Carothers, Miss Plano was crowned Miss Texas 2016 on July 3, 2016 at Eisemann Center In Richardson. Caroline Carothers succeeds Shannon Sanderford, who was a Top 10 finalist at Miss America pageant last year.
Caroline Carothers will now represent Texas at Miss America 2017, hoping to be crowned as next Miss America by the reigning beauty queen, Betty Cantrell from Georgia.
During the same event, Heather King was crowned as Miss Texas Outstanding Teen 2016.
Miss Texas competition was founded in 1937 as a scholarship contest for young women. Three women from Texas have gone on to be crowned Miss America, amongst whom are, Shirley Cothran (1974), Phyllis George (1970) and Jo-Carroll Dennison (1942). Texas has been placing consistently at Miss America since 2004.
