Finland had a terrific status in the bygone era and was considered to be one of the biggest powerhouses of beauty and talent. Lola Wallinkoski was the last delegate from Finland to mark her presence at Miss Universe in 1996 by winning the second runner up title at Miss Universe 1996 pageant. Since then, no representatives from Finland have made to the semi-finals of Miss Universe. Finland has placed at Miss Universe 15 times since its participation in 1964 and has won two Miss Universe crowns through Anne Pohtamo in 1975 and Armi Kuusela, who was the first ever Miss Universe crowned in 1952. But since 1996, the elongated drought has not ended up till now.
However, Krista Haapalainen was the last delegate from Finland to place in the Top 25 quarter finals of Miss World 2014. Finland has six placements at Miss World, and one Miss World crown through Marita Lindahl, who was crowned as Miss World 1957.
Finland has 22 placements in Miss International with one crown through Anneli Björkling, who was crowned as Miss International 1972.
Do you think Finland will be able to reclaim its status in 2016?
