Ntandoyenkosi Kunene Crowned Miss South Africa 2016

Ntandoyenkosi Kunene was crowned as Miss South Africa 2016 by the outgoing titleholder, Liesl Laurie on the grand finale held on 19th March 2016 at the Sun City Superbowl. Miss South Africa 2016 was the 60th edition of the pageant and witnessed the battle amongst 12 finalists. Elizabeth Molapo was adjudged as first princess and Tayla Skye Robinson was titled as second princess.


Gracing the jury panel were Kojo Baffoe, entrepreneur, poet, writer and former magazine editor, Sophie Ndaba, actress and TV personality and Casper Bosman, the renowned Bloemfontein designer. Monique Bingham was star of the musical eve as he performed at “Deep in the Bottom”.

After a breathtaking introductory performance by the contestants, Top 8 finalists were announced by Miss South Africa Organization:

  1. Sarah Botes
  2. Schane Venter
  3. Sharon-Rose Khumalo
  4. Tayla Skye Robinson
  5. Elizabeth Molapo
  6. Luyolo Mngonyama
  7. Ntandoyenkosi Kunene
  8. Reabetswe Sechoaro

After the evening gown and swimsuit performance, the Top 8 finalists were further trimmed to Top 5 finalists, amongst whom were:

  1. Sarah Botes
  2. Tayla Skye Robinson
  3. Sharon Khumalo
  4. Ntandoyenkosi Kunene
  5. Elizabeth Molapo

Subsequent to final question and answer round, Ntandoyenkosi Kunene was announced as the winner of Miss South Africa 2016. Congratulations to all the winners!

Three out of Top 5 finalists were there in my final predictions for Miss South Africa 2016, including the newly crowned Miss South Africa 2016, Ntandoyenkosi Kunene.

Know More About Ntandoyenkosi Kunene

Ntandoyenkosi Kunene is an Honours student at Wits University and hails from Mkhondo, Mpumalanga. Her idea behind joining the Miss South Africa 2016 pageant was to help others rise above their odd circumstances and to invoke the idea of equality among the masses.

The newly crowned Miss South Africa opined: “I am inspired by the women the Miss SA brand has produced in the last half century: selfless woman who use the opportunities afforded them to not only elevate themselves, but to be of help to others, to serve.”


Liesl Laurie, was a Top 10 finalist at Miss World 2015, held in Sanya, China on 19th December 2015 and after South Africa’s two consecutive placements at Miss World, this year would certainly expect a lot from the newly crowned Miss South Africa 2016, Ntandoyenkosi Kunene.

South Africa has three Miss World crowns and has been giving outstanding performances at various international pageants, other than Miss World as well.
