Heartiest congratulations, Sushruthi for making it to the finalists of Femina Miss India 2016. It is certainly a pleasant surprise for all your fans and supporters. You marked your debut last year at Femina Miss India 2015, and eventually won many hearts through your radiant personality! Now that you have come back, how have things changed in this one year?
Thank you so much, Vagisha and TKOP for your wishes and your constant backing. It’s the best feeling in the world when you know that someone believes in your dream as much as you do. I think not being placed in Miss India last year could have been the best thing that happened to me. I gained a lot of experience in the pageant last year. After which, I had a span of one year to learn, understand and develop myself in various aspects that would be essential to take on the responsibility of being a Miss India as well as into the journey of a Miss World.
How are you preparing for this nerve wrecking pageant? What are your prime agendas?
Even though I’ve been here before, I would be lying if I say that the pageant is something that is easy to get through. I think the fact that I have my family supporting me through this and my preparation for the past year is what is allowing me to do my best during this time. My prime agenda is and always has been that you’ve got to be prepared and work hard before you enter a competition. When you are at it, give it your best shot.
Last year your “Beauty with a Purpose” project about “Anatta” was observed and appreciated by the Miss World organization itself. What will your “Beauty with a Purpose” project reflect this year? Tell us more about it.
My beauty with a purpose project continues to be “Anatta”. It was an ecstatic moment when Miss World shared it with the world. This has been a project that my team and I have been working on for more than a year and a half. We had spent time initially to research and understand the space which we were entering. We have completed one project and have 3 ongoing projects. Also, in the past year our team has grown in size and we have people with various expertise. We are also tied up with “Let’s Do Some Foundation” for our projects. They have been mentoring us and guiding us through this process. We have also tied up with various other NGO’s and platforms. We strongly believe in collaborative work. This allows us create an impact in schools in a more efficient manner.
What was the incident that moved you to choose this project as your “Beauty with a Purpose” project for Femina Miss India 2016?
I always believed that some part of what you learn should always be used to improve the lives of other in any way possible. Being a student of architecture, improving infrastructure in government schools was a good place to start. When we visited these schools, we realized that it’s the sanitation infrastructure that needed the most attention at this point of time. As this was a project that we had been working on, I felt that Miss India would be the right platform to bring this issue to light and share it with the world.
You are a proficient dancer, an architect, a model, and a skilled swimmer and basket ball player! A perfect Miss World package! How confident are you for winning Miss World India crown?
I owe it to my family and my mentors from my school, college and all the other learning institutions who have developed me to being this individual. Also, I have been working hard with towards this dream. I feel that I’m prepared for this role. I surely do hope that this comes to me as pleasant news on the 9th of April.
Miss World presently has variety of assessment levels, from Sports to Talent, to Top Model and Multimedia. What do you think is your forte and how are you preparing yourself to reach the expertise level of all these challenging rounds?
As I mentioned earlier, I have been exposed to the above mentioned fields. My forte would definitely be Sport and Talent round as my school had given me the opportunity to represent the school for various sports, the roll of Sport Captain and have also been training as a dancer for 7 years. However, if I do represent India internationally girls will be coming from all around the world and the competition would be tough. I would definitely need to work much harder and master these skills to make India shine.
Who do you think will be your strongest competitor for the Femina Miss India 2016 crown?
I think this year’s batch has come extremely well prepared to compete and each girl has something that makes her shine. It would be too early in the competition to comment on this.
Who is your ideal beauty queen and how has she inspired you to evolve as a beauty queen?
To me, a beauty queen is someone who has a well rounded personality and someone who can relate with others easily. She must be strong, ready for difficult times ahead and amidst chaos act as a symbol of hope for others. I think a beauty queen who really touched me in the recent past has to be Megan Young. I truly respect her for her humility and the compassion towards the work she is involved in.
What message would you like to give to The Kaleidoscope of Pageantry and your fans reading this interview?
I would like to thank TKOP from the bottom of my heart because you have been with me through my journey and constantly backing me through it all. Thank you to everyone who has encouraged me and challenged me. Also to all my dear friends out there, if it’s your dream, don’t give up! Fight for what you believe in.
Conversing with you is always a delight, Sushruthi; thank you for the interview and wishing you all the very best for the forthcoming journey of Fbb Femina Miss India 2016. Keep shining the way you always do!
