Jolly Mutesi Crowned Miss Rwanda 2016
Jolly Mutesi from Southern Province was crowned as Miss Rwanda 2016 by the outgoing titleholder, Doriane Kundwa in the grand finale held at Camp Kigali on Saturday, February 27th, 2016. Peace Kwizera was titled as 1st Runner-Up, Vanessa Mpogazi was adjudged as 2nd Runner-Up, Marie d’Amour Rangira was announced as 3rd Runner-Up and Sharifa Umuhoza was declared as 4th Runner-Up.
At the same pageant, Jeanne Umutoni was crowned as Miss Heritage Rwanda 2016. She will now represent Rwanda at Miss Heritage 2016.
This year Miss Rwanda 2016 pageant witnessed the battle between 15 contestants. Marie d’Amour Rangira and Sharifa Umuhoza completed the top five finalists spot. During the grand finale many special awards were also allocated to the contestants, amongst whom were:
Miss Congeniality – Ariane Uwimana
Miss Photogenic – Kwizera Peace Ndaruhutse
Miss Popularity – Umuhoza Sharifa
Speaking to the media after winning the coveted Miss Rwanda crown, 19 years old, Jolly Mutesi expressed her ecstasy in following words: “There are a lot of things I feel I can do for the country, I can’t say I have a set plan yet but what’s key is I have the ability to be an ambassador and a voice for my country. I want to assure Rwandans that I won’t let them down. I want to assure Rwandans that I will set a good example as Miss Rwanda, and I know that this position is a platform that will let me achieve my goals.”
Mutesi revealed that she will use her platform to promote domestic tourism, by appealing to the youth to maximize the touristic heritage. Mutesi had an impressive run from the elimination stages, demonstrating a high level of buoyancy which she summed up in one slogan during the final question and answer round as “I believe I can.”
Jolly Mutesi is a senior-six graduate from King David High School. Cogebanque, which was the main sponsor of Miss Rwanda 2016 rewarded the newly crowned Miss Rwanda, Jolly Mutesi with a MasterCard prepaid card where she will be credited Rwf800,000 a month for a year. Mutesi was also handed with a brand-new Suzuki Swift worth Rwf15 million. Congratulations to the newly crowned beauty queen!
